Run Lola Run

"Run Lola Run" is about a woman named Lola who need to find 100,000 DM in 20 minutes for her boyfriend, Manny who lost it to a homeless man on a train. If he does not get the money 20 minutes he will get killed by a drug dealer. But that is not the only part, it is also how her life affects others around her, whether a woman out for a walk with her baby or a bicyclist riding next to her, she affects everyone around her.

The open credits start with a clock and the camera focusing on the clock. This idea of time plays a huge part in the movie and will be explained later. Then you see a crowd of people walking and the ones that mean something are in color, and collectively they make the name Lola. Lola, played by Franka Potente, need 100,000 DM to save her boyfriend. When Manny calls her to tell her this, she runs out of her apartment and the movie turns into a cartoon for a few minutes and is a interesting way to show the movie then goes back to live action. While she is running to help save Manny she runs by people and as she runs by them she affects their lives and you see in a slide show how their lives turn out.

She tries to get her father to help but he will not and tells her that he is not her real father and send her off. She then continues to Manny who has waited to long and goes to rob a grocery store, she goes to help but gets shot and she says that she does not want to die and the whole day starts over from the phone call at the beginning. This is where the time element comes into play, somehow Lola has manipulated time and goes back in time to help Manny until she gets it right. The first time she dies, the second time he dies, and the third she saves both of them, gets back the money from the homeless man and gets more money from a casino. Each of these three times she almost does the same things and how these action affect everyone she comes in contact with, whether good or bad she affects everyone.

It is interesting how the time travel element comes into play but how on earth does Lola do that, I wish that was explained better that would have made the idea better. Overall the movie was alright, the cartoon element was interesting but was not worth it but how she affects everyone she comes in contact with is like "Crash" or "It's A Wonderful Life". I would give it a 6/10, so check it out if you want.
